Trey Parker and Matt stone, the creators of the show made a deal with Comedy Central about twelve years ago through their lawyer Kevin Morris. According to the agreement, they were to share the earnings from non-TV revenue of the show on a 50-50 basis.

In these economically difficult times, we find the print media, the entertainment business and the network business are struggling to secure their future. However, these two goofy guys, who created a cartoon, in which kids speak foul language but are still loved by the fans, have proved themselves to be visionaries. You can very well imagine how far-sighted they are from the fact that they long ago entered into an agreement which is still valid and continues to bring profit to them. I’m sure none of the concerned parties might have thought of the long ranging benefits of the contract at the time of making the agreement.

Trey Parker and Matt stone knew this seed will sprout into a fruitful tree and bring them abundant revenue in its springtime. As they both are the ones who are exclusively responsible for handling all the work of South Park, they are comparable to the characters of their cartoon show. I say this because they handle the work of direction and voice-over as well as control the digital sale and display, and also participate in its profits. So it is quite obvious that the two have the greatest say in what they want to do with the show.

South Park Studios already has launched a website in April last year which has already crossed over 300 million views for the 181 episodes that are available on the site. Hence it did not come as a surprise when Mr. Stone stated the technical simplicity of the deal. According to Mr. Stone, “The way we are set up now, when, say, Netflix wants season five, we can just push a button and make it happen.”
