The second season of the animated comedy series South Park debuted on 1st April 1998. The season aired a total of eighteen episodes. In the first episode, Terrance’s daughter is kidnapped and he travels to Iraq with Phillip to rescue her while Saddam takes the opportunity to take over Canada. Dr. Mephisto is on the verge of revealing the name of Cartman’s father when he is shot and while Chef takes him to the hospital, he is still on deathbed as his life support system stops working due to power failure which can only be restored by Kenny. Cartman is hired as a deputy cop when Officer Barbrady confesses to his illiteracy, after he is unable to read the clue note left behind by the chicken molester, who is on loose in the town.

Mr. Mackey becomes a druggie after he is fired for losing a sample of marijuana in the class while the kids, after misunderstanding the proceeding of the ceremony, try to save Kyle’s baby brother Ike from being circumcised. Kyle’s mother tries to educate the kids about the deformation of the school nurse which is due to a dead fetus attached to her head while Chef leads the school dodge ball team to victory in the national competitionThe boys’ interview Jimbo and Ned for a school project, who lie to them about the Vietnam War while a producer plans to change the format of the show Jesus and Pals to get higher ratings. The kids get stuck inside the school bus which is left hanging on a cliff, and while Ms. Crabtree goes to get help, the kids reminisce about all their past adventures. When the government bans fireworks, the town’s people have to come up with an alternative for the July 4 celebrations, while Cartman faces problems in his swimming classes and Mr. Hat breaks up with Mr. Garrison to go with Brett Favre. A Los Angeles film festival comes to South Park bringing along crowds of people who threaten to wreak havoc on the town’s eco-system while the kids have some fun on their own. When Kenny is diagnosed with chicken pox, his friends’ parents sent their children to his home so that they can also catch the infection and soon all except Kyle are down with chickenpox. After returning from a class trip to a planetarium, the boys still want to go back and upon investigating, Stan, Kyle, and Kenny learn that the curator has been brainwashing people while Cartman tries to get a role in a Cheesy Poof commercial. In order to get the girls to play Truth or Dare with them, the boys plan to build a clubhouse and are supported by Randy and Kyle while Stan’s parents go for a divorce.

During its annual Cow Days festival, the citizens present the cows with a new mesmerizing Wooden Cow Memorial while the kids are desperate to win a Terence and Philip doll at a carnival even at the cost of taking advantage of Cartman’s temporary personality change. Tables turn on Chef, when upon claiming the compensation for the new hit song that had been written by him twenty years ago, he is sued by the record company for millions of dollars and so the kids assemble all Chef’s old music friends to raise the money. A killer goldfish from the parallel universe comes to live with Kyle while everybody in the town prefers the Cartman from the parallel universe to the real Cartman. It is Christmas time and the kids go to visit Cartman’s grandmother in Nebraska and while they are there, Cartman’s uncle runs away from the prison with the help of his cell mate Charlie Manson. To prove that Mr. Garrison has actually been teaching something to them, the kids are required to prepare a current events report along with Tweek, whose father uses the opportunity to advance his personal grievances. In the final episode of the season, which was aired on 20th January 1999, the boys come across a man who has been trapped in the ice since 1996 and argue over selecting a name for him while the ice man tries to get back with his wife and kids.

This was the seventeenth episode of the season and was aired on 16th December 1998. In this episode Mr. Garrison is threatened with his job and in order to prove to the school board that he has indeed been teaching something to the children, he assigns group oral reports on current events to his class. The boys are grouped together with Tweek whose father suggests that the boys do their report on how large corporations try to push out small business. He writes the report himself which impresses the school board and they ask the boys to put up a proposition to keep the big chain coffee shop, Harbucks, out of South Park
