Be it animation technologies or legal procedures, South Park is one show, or rather a creation that has been and is able to volley back challenges at its challengers, along with a price for challenging it.
A download could get us enough evidence to rate the show as one of the most successful animation series ever to be launched on television. A dynamic script and animation, high on emotional quotient, have been trademarks of South Park, a show straight from the minds of Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
So when there are Viacom maestros like Parker and Stone scripting and handling things from the top, you can’t expect things to go wrong. As far as I know, the duo is used to back their plot structures with cinematic logics, based on a lot of research and documentation, which simply renders them foolproof against all possible conflicts and questions that can be raised by the audience and focused competitors.
Brownmark Films (BF) did not want to acknowledge all this, and went ahead to slap a lawsuit on South Park’s spoof of Samwell’s ‘What What (In The Butt)’ video.
The result – BF has been charged for framing an unreasonable legal position against the show, and ignoring the First Amendment by the court. Now, BF has to shell out $31,545 as a fine to Viacom executives!
No one could stop that from happening you know. They had been already warned regarding the foolishness of their case. But as fate would have it, instead of taking back the case, they proceeded with a lawsuit, only to see this day.
What a shame! The judge had to actually reduce the fine by a third for some relief to a cash-tight BF.
Though a sum like that might just fall short for a Viacom daily lunch bill, I’m sure they wouldn’t let that $31,545 go, as they would want the world to know – Don’t mess with South Park.
